Carnegie Speech

To be understood and to understand - because learning matters

Education

To better prepare non-English speakers for employment or education, school districts, workforce development centers and academic institutions have embraced Carnegie Speech's spoken English training programs to speed language learning while reducing language training time and expense.

At Carnegie Speech, we understand that success in the workforce – and classroom – is directly related to the ability to be understood and to understand spoken English. Having applied world-class artificial intelligence and speech recognition technologies to the challenge of improving spoken English for educational purposes, Carnegie Speech's products are especially applicable toward English as a Second Language (ESL) and other academic spoken English training challenges.

To accurately and objectively evaluate each student's spoken language capabilities, educators often start with Carnegie Speech Assessment. After students complete a short, intuitive and interactive spoken English assessment, educators are better able to assign students the appropriate language training courses and curriculum.

Once a student's speech has been assessed, Carnegie Speech's NativeAccent®, featuring personalized, interactive and intuitive exercises, gives students the instruction and practice needed to rapidly improve spoken English. With an Intelligent Tutor that tailors a curriculum specific to each student's native language and current English skills, and pinpointed pronunciation analysis that identifies spoken English errors and provides immediate remediation instruction, NativeAccent helps students improve their spoken English skills quickly and cost-effectively.

Because Workforce Development Matters

To better teach students learning English as a Second Language (ESL), a major school district's workforce development centers selected NativeAccent from Carnegie Speech to improve spoken English skills and to raise performance on standardized English tests. The results were significant, specifically:

  • Class average for pronunciation scores increased by 131% with as little as two (2) hours of instruction – and up to 239% with 10 or more hours of instruction.
  • On standardized CASAS Listening tests, students who used NativeAccent for more than four (4) hours scored an average of 5-scaled points – more than double the expected gains.

Feedback from Academic Skills / Adult Education Teacher:
